PRINTS

Whilst my prints are Giclee prints, they are new explorations. I want to focus on peoples features, the hair, the eyes, the nose, the mouth, the murmur between two people –where you can almost see the breath. I’m interested in what they might be saying. Before with drawing I composed a tableau with lots of figures interacting with each other on a giant scale. Now I’m micro-focusing - almost to a cellular level . This shift from a grand scale to focusing on portraits gives my work a more introspective psychological quality. By honing in on the details, I aim to capture not just the physical traits but the subtle, often unspoken interactions between people as if the very act of breathing or silent communication carries its own meaning. They are are more personal, more intense; frozen moments in time that still pulse with energy
I find it intriguing that these prints created from my drawings actually appear more refined in print form. the use of high grade paper allows for texture and depth which plays a significant role in transforming the original vision. Because these individuals appeared of their own volition, without me making them, its almost as though I need to get to know them by focusing on their finer features where conversations and inner thoughts seem to awaken and explode onto the paper almost like uncovering hidden narratives.
